When Your Computer Crashes and You Choose Yoga Instead

audio version:

I want to share a recent experience that taught me a powerful lesson about surrender, adaptability, and leveling up how I interact with my life.

Picture this: I was about to head to my yoga class, super excited to get back into the groove with yoga again, when, right before stepping out the door, I went to my computer to check my schedule for the day and realized that nothing on my computer screen was recognizable.

Thoughts raced through my mind – the unfinished tasks, pending deadlines, and the need to quickly fix my computer. Then the wave of panic took over. Then I did something completely different. I felt my brain kicking into a complete fawn response (fight, flight, freeze, and fawn mode), but rather than follow the fear, I walked away and went to yoga class anyway.

It might not sound like much, but it was a massive pivot from my usual reaction. In that moment, I hijacked an old, worn-out behavior. Rather than freaking out, I trusted that moving toward an activity that could give me room to figure things out more reasonably was a far better decision than trying to manhandle the circumstances with fret and anxiety.

In that moment of chaos, I made a conscious choice: surrender and trust the process. Instead of letting the situation control my emotions, I responded with intention. The crash became my catalyst—proof that breakdowns can become breakthroughs. Rather than spiraling into old patterns, I did something different. I went to yoga.

During that yoga class, as I moved through different poses, I reflected on the blank canvas that lay before me. The crash had wiped away my previous work, forcing me to start anew. Although initially daunting, it presented an opportunity for growth and new possibilities.

In the days that followed, I rebuilt my digital world step by step, discovering creativity I never knew I had. What started as a complete loss became something even better—proof of the resilience we all carry inside us.

Here’s what I learned: when life crashes your system, you get to rewrite the code. Those moments that feel like disasters? They’re actually invitations to build something new. The blank canvas isn’t scary; it’s freedom.

So next time your world gets turned upside down, remember this story. Trust the rebuilding process, let your emotions guide you toward growth, and know that sometimes the best chapters come after the worst crashes.

Here’s to finding your way through whatever storms come next.
