Today is day 11 of both my cold and my 40 Day Meditation. I’m not going to lie to you—it has been brutal!
I get a cold once a year. When it comes, it comes on strong and fast, with the whole routine usually lasting no more than three days.
The good news is that as hard as it has been to keep up with the meditation, it has brought my focus on self-care to an Olympic level.
I am paying attention to what I feed my body at all levels. I drink soothing teas and brothy soups. I spend time in the steam room and go to the gym to sweat it out on the treadmill as much as my body will allow.
Anyone who knows me would agree that I’m great at overdoing things. Whether it’s a jam-packed three-day weekend or what was supposed to be a quiet Valentine’s Day dinner at home, I just can’t help but launch into the proverbial stratosphere of logistics and showmanship. But what goes up . . .
The re-entry is where I can get my butt kicked. So when I opted in on the 40 Day Meditation, I knew subconsciously it would bring about a big shift. Has it ever—and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
At the beginning and the end of the day, when huge continental shifts happen around us, the best gift we can offer ourselves is the opportunity for self-care. So if you’re not doing the 40 Day Meditation, I encourage you to take a moment when you’re done reading (and liking and sharing!) this post: close your computer, put your phone on airplane mode, close your eyes, and take 30 deep, lung-filling and emptying breaths.
Be dedicated and compassionate with yourself. Breathe deeply and dive into your life.
